The Cordax® Discovery CMM
from Sheffield Measurement bas been adopted by hundreds of manufacturers around
the world over the last decade and is the original shop floor CMM. Discovery III is the next evolution of
inspection at the point of manufacture and builds upon its predecessor’s many
successes, featuring improved accuracy, extended thermal performance, and a
modern updated industrial design.
In place of air bearings Discovery III uses
hardened machine tool re-circulating ball bearings running at just a fraction
of their rated load. This contributes to
long life and lower maintenance costs in some of the harshest shop environments
imaginable. And with no need for air and
a roll-around stand, Discovery III provides the ultimate in flexibility when it
comes to shop floor layout.
With the addition of the CMM-V and ScanShark support, Discovery III is now a true multi-sensor shop floor CMM.
-
With the CMM-V high resolution camera, Discovery III is ideally suited for challenging applications that require shop-floor, non-contact vision measurement, including:
-
Medical implants and devices
-
Pharmaceuticals
-
Aerospace components
-
Automotive stampings
-
Printed circuit boards and other computer components
-
Micro electronics
-
Print head cartridges
-
Die cut components
-
Aluminum, steel and plastic packaging and container
-
Photonics
-
Flexible rubber and plastic components
With indexable vision measurement, the Discovery III with CMM-V lets users inspect features contained in an entire field of view, at multiple probe angles and in difficult areas — such as small features, holes, slots or edge positions. Software controlled, integrated LED illumination allows image optimization for each measurement. With the compatible automated changing rack, it’s easy to switch from CMM-V to touch trigger or analog scanning probes without changing setups. CMM-V works with PC-DMIS® Vision, a version of the world’s most powerful and widely used dimensional inspection software. PC-DMIS Vision features easy point-and-click programming, and, because it can link directly to2D and 3D CAD models, it’s ideal for the multi-sensor, shop-floor capability of the Discovery III with CMM-V.
-
The Discovery III D-28 with ScanShark makes shop-floor non-contact laser scanning a reality, providing reverse engineering, point cloud-to-CAD comparisons, and 3D visualization and inspection.
- Gather up to 25 times the points per second than other laser systems
- Ideal for difficult to measure surfaces. Especially flexible, fragile, or soft-bodied parts susceptible to damage or deflection with a tactile probe
- Less sensitive to surface finish variations and ambient lighting conditions than other non-contact technologies.
PC-DMIS and PolyWorks state-of-the-art software works in concert to manage data collection and analysis. PC-DMIS CAD++ enables scanning and digitizing functions for fast and efficient measurement of complex three dimensional shapes. The measured point clouds are imported into PolyWorks/Modeler to create accurate, smooth polygonal models and NURBS surfaces.
With optional racks, changing between the ScanShark, touch trigger probes, and analog scanning probes is automatic. And when combined with an automatic indexable head, Discovery III and ScanShark provide the ultimate level of flexibility to shop-floor non-contact laser scanning.
The original Discovery created the ever
increasing trend that has moved dimensional inspection out of the quality lab
and onto the factory floor where results are needed fast. Still affordable and now more capable than
ever, Discovery III continues to answer the question: Who wants to wait for results from the
quality lab? Why not bring the quality
lab where it’s needed most?
